Dr. Elsie Effah Kaufmann, quiz mistress of the National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) has pleaded with the unknown person(s) who ‘stole’ her handbag at the grand finale of the 2017 edition of the competition to return her handbag.
The black heavy leather bag of the Senior Lecturer of the Biomedical Engineering Department of the University of Ghana who has been the face of the Quiz since 2006 was declared missing after she had helped present the trophy to contestants, heads and students from the Prempeh College who were the 2017 winners of the contest.
She has since filed a complaint with the Ministries Police in Osu who are still investigating the matter.
After Adomonline.com’s report of the missing handbag which went viral on social and mainstream media, the unknown persons on Saturday dropped the purse of Dr. Elsie Effah Kaufmann at the School of Engineering Sciences, University of Ghana.
The purse which was in a brown envelope contained her drivers’ license, ATM cards and another card.
Interestingly, the reasonable amount of amount of money, two (2) pairs of reading glasses, two (2) cross pens, an umbrella, a calculator, a book – Tales of the Faithful – which she was reading before the event; her pair of gold earrings and questions used for the finals of the NSMQ were not part of the contents in the brown envelope.
Another book which contained records of the contest from the one-eighth stage of the contest and her Samsung Galaxy phone which were also in the leather bag were not returned.
The brown envelope with the inscription, ‘Found Purse of the Quiz Mistress’ was found by the security at the department who in turn informed their superiors.
“Around 5:00 pm yesterday (Saturday), I went for my purse after I was informed by the University security…,”she told Adomonline.com’s Kwaku Nti in an exclusive interview.
Dr Effah Kaufmann said she has reported the latest update to the Ministries Police which are still investigating the matter.
She however appealed to the unknown persons to return the other valuables as the theft has made her ‘disoriented’.
“I also need the books and the other items to file a final report of the contest at the review of this year’s edition…,” she appealed.
After a successful final between Prempeh College, Adisadel College and St. Thomas Aquinas at the National Theatre on Thursday, it emerged that the Quiz Mistress, Dr. Elsie Effah Kaufmann’s handbag had been stolen.
Efforts to immediately trace the thief proved futile, forcing organizers to make public appeals for assistance to retrieve the bag which was said to have contained her ATM cards, her purse, some amount of money, reading glasses, among other valuables.
