A high court in Sunyani is threatening to sentence the deputy minister of monitoring and evaluation to a month in prison should he fail in paying his GH¢7,000 court fine. Deputy minister of monitoring and evaluation to be jailed if he defaults court fine
The deputy minister is feared to have been guilty of contempt of court after plaintiffs filed a suit against him over a troubled piece of land. So far, the stakes remain very high over the possibility of the deputy minister being relieved of his post should he get imprisoned by the court. This is because he will turn out to be the only minister to have been incarcerated while going about his normal duties in the 4th republic of Ghana.
Information gathering shows the minister will be paying his fine by Monday, June 12 thus clearing his name of all charges leveled against him. Meanwhile, President Nana Addo has revealed that he will not hesitate to punish any corrupt government official under his administration.
The president has revealed that corruption will be a thing of the past in his administration. But despite these assurances, the NPP administration has been blamed for the large size of government as most political critics say the move by the president goes a long way to burden the public purse.
