Two cattle rustlers caught with cooked pot of beef & ammunition


Two suspected cattle rustlers are in the grips of the Begoro District Police in the Eastern region after a silver pan containing cooked beef and an unlicensed single barrel gun were found in their rooms.

The accused persons, Henry Tettey and Ibrahim Sunday, both 36-year old farmers have however pleaded not guilty to charges of possessions of explosives, firearms and ammunition, stealing and cruelty to animals when they appeared before a Koforidua Circuit Court Presided over by Her Honour Janet Anima Marfo on Tuesday.

Narrating the incident to court, Prosecuting Officer Superintendent Kofi Blagodzi told the court that, complainant in the case is a herdsman and stays at Ho-Fiave in the Volta region but has cattle at Akumfere village near Begoro in the Eastern region, whiles the accused persons stay in Ankasu and Akumfere respectively.

He said on the December 9, 2016 at about 11.30 pm, the complainant had a call from Seidu Osman caretaker of his cattle over robbery attack on them whiles in the kraal with his wife.

According to the Prosecutor, the two accused shot and killed five of the cattle valued GHC13,000 of which they slaughtered one and took it away leaving the head behind, and further took away three mobile phones.

Superintendent Blagodzi further narrated that on December 13, 2016, the accused persons were arrested and a search conducted in their homes found a silver pan containing cooked meat and a single barrel gun having denied ever possessing gun.

The accused have been granted bail whiles the case has been adjourned to January 9, 2017.
