3 Drown in White Volta

Three teenagers drowned in the White Volta when they were returning from the campaign launch of a National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate at Daboya in the Northern Region last Sunday evening.

The names of the three teenagers have been given by the police as Mavis Kofi Setor, 19; Samia Yusuf, 19, and Fawdatu Abass, 18.
They were among the passengers, mostly NDC supporters, who were crossing the White Volta from Daboya to Tamale after the campaign launch by Mr Mahama Shaibu Obei, the incumbent Member of Parliament and parliamentary candidate for Daboya, when the incident occurred.
The three deceased persons have since been buried, while four persons who were rescued are responding to treatment.
Briefing
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Ebenezer Tetteh, who briefed the Daily Graphic in Tamale yesterday, said the incident occurred after the boat on which they were travelling capsized midway through the journey.
He said the local rescue team was able to retrieve the bodies of the three and also save the lives of four others.
As of the time of filing this report, the police were yet to make public the identities of the four rescued persons.
