Photos: Koforidua flooded after torrential rains



Torrential rains that lasted several hours have submerged homes and displaced many in the Eastern Region capital, Koforidua.
 The heavy rains on Sunday forced many residents to abandon their homes for fear of being drowned.
 Adom News' Eastern Region Correspondent, Maxwell Kudekor said residents at worst hit areas, like Abrewa Nkwanta, Ajisu, Nsukwa, Koforidua Zongo, Koforuda Magazine, Abrewa Nkwanta are salvaging what is left of their household appliances and other properties.
 “The floods also took over the main street, causing heavy traffic. It’s the first time in a long while we have have experienced such rainfall”, a resident said.
 The flooding was worsened by choked gutters, which residents say blocked the flow of water.
 Officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), were on the ground working to rescue the situation.


Resident at the affected areas say they are putting up with relatives and friends. Maxwell said most Muslim homes including their livestock were submerged in water.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is yet to assist the displaced residents with relief items.
