Rawlings: “Montie 3” Pardon is the Most Useless and Senseless Decision a Leader can ever make




Former President Flt. Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings has taken a swipe at the decision by the President John Dramani Mahama to grant pardon to the incarcerated “Montie 3” for contempt of court.

A statement signed by the Minister of Communication, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah said the President has in consultation with the Council of State and in exercise of his constitutional powers under Article 72 of the Constitution, remitted the remaining prison sentence imposed on three persons: Salifu Maase (alias Mugabe), Alistair Nelson and Ako Gunn who were sentenced to 4 months imprisonment and a fine of GHȻ10,000.00 each for contempt of court. The remission is effective 26th August 2016.

However, the Ex-President who is also the Founder of the Governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) said the decision is the statement is very careless. “How can you glorify foolishness and recklessness with a senseless decision? It absolutely undermines the Judiciary” he quizzed.

“I could not believe it when I saw the statement issued by the Communications Minister, anyway my office is going to release a press statement coming Friday” he concluded.
