DCE appeals for support for Achiase accident victims


The District Chief Executive for Birim South, Emmanuel Kwakye is appealing for support for accident victims at Akyem Achiase in the Eastern region.

The incident occurred at about 1:00 pm at Saturday while the victims were on their way to bury a dead relative.

According to reports, a tipper truck run into some people who were walking along the road to the cemetery to bury the body.

Another truck was said to have crushed and into a Hyundai bus which had the dead body and some mourners on board, killing five of the mourners instantly.

Three out of twenty people who were severely injured in the accident died at the Oda government hospital later. The seventeen are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.

In an interview on Adom News, Emmanuel Kwakye said though the assembly has supported the victims with GHC2000 and some food items, it is woefully inadequate.

He indicated that six of the victims who sustained severe injuries have been transferred to Korle Bu Teaching hospital in Accra for treatment.

He revealed that other individuals and tipper truck drivers in the area have also donated monies towards the treatment of the victims.

The deceased, the Birim South DCE added are still at the Oda government hospital morgue for autopsy.

Emmanuel Kwakye appealed to individuals and corporate bodies especially in the Eastern region to support the families to give their loved one a befitting burial.

Some of the deceased have been identified as Isaac Amakye, Issah Ibrahim, Alexander Okyere and Afua.
