Audio: I will sue Bawumia - Koku Anyidoho

Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho is taking legal action against the vice presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), for failing to provide evidence for his bloated voter register claim.

According to him, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia's failure to provide evidence to support his claim that the current electoral roll amounts to deceit of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission Charlottee Osei who is a public officer.

“Bawumia has taken Ghanaians for granted and has lied to us and the EC and so I am taking legal action against him for deceiving public officer. I am going to court not to waste people’s time but to draw attention that he (Bawumia) has deceived us” he stated.

Dr Bawumia some months ago revealed that a team commissioned by the party to go into Ghana’s voters' register, had identified 76,286 persons with the same data in both Ghana and Togo’s voters' register.

He said the affected persons were mostly found in the Volta Region, with Ketu South cited as one of the constituencies where the anomalies took place represented less than 10 per cent of the party’s inquiry into the country’s voters' register

The evidence gathered, Dr. Bawumia added, gave credence to the party’s call for the EC to compile a new voters' register prior to the 2016 elections.

However, Koku Anyidoho on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme Friday said, Dr. Bawumia coud not provide "a shred of evidence to back his claims".

Based on this backdrop, the NDC deputy scribe said he is dragging him [Bawumia] to court "to prove that he did not lie to Ghanaians".

The NDC man indicated that, the credibility of the former deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana is now hangs in the balance and until he proves his case, "nobody in Ghana will beleive him again".

Koku Anyidoho said given the assurance from his lawyers, he is confidence of victory in his suit against Dr. Bawumia to put the NPP to shame.

But in a quick rebuttal, a Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, Anthony Abayefa Karbo described Koku Anyidoho’s claim as baseless.

“He (Anyidoho) is just wasting his time because his allegations are just baseless and has no locus. We all know that Koku is not in good terms with the president and so he is just doing something to win favour from the president” he said.

Mr Karbo called on Mr. Anyidoho to rather drag President Mahama to court for deceiving Ghanaians that he will fix the erratic power supply popularly known as ‘dumsor’.
