Daniel Sturridge scored a 92nd-minute winner to break Welsh hearts and send England top of Group B.
Gareth Bale gave Chris Coleman's side the lead with a stunning free-kick from 30 yards. Joe Hart will feel he should have perhaps kept it out but his starting position left him with too much ground to make up.
Roy Hodgson brought on Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge at half time and it proved to be an inspired decision.
Ten minutes after the break the Leicester hit man swept home a scrappy equaliser, and with two minutes of the game remaining Sturridge stabbed in the winner.
