President John Mahama with his charges |
The army boss stated the president has all the sophisticated security at his disposal and will not need a rifle to protect himself.
“Any gun that can fire 200 rounds continuously cannot be concealed and I doubt if my president will carry that. The president has enough protection and it is our duty to protect him too. He does not need to carry a gun,” Air Marshall Samson-Oje told a group of journalists in Accra, Tuesday.
A few weeks ago, news broke that Mahama, who is the presidential candidate of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2016 elections, had acquired a gun, going through licensing from the Arms and Ammunition Unit of the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
However, Air Marshall Samson-Oje has watered down the report, insisting the President has enough security and would not need to worry his head over personal protection.
