AKWAPIM MAMPONG CHIEFS 'MAD' OVER ATTACKS ON SAMMY AWUKU

The Chiefs of Akwapim Mampong in the Eastern Region are up in arms against what they describe as an ‘assassination’ attempt on the life of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Youth Organiser, Sammy Awuku.

The chiefs in a strongly worded statement signed by the Apesemakahene, Nana Kwabena Yirenkyi warned persons who might have wanted to perpetrate such heinous crimes to desist from that.

“This [statement] is also to caution people perpetrating such heinous crimes to desist from that since as the saying goes, “everyday for the thief, one day for the master,’ they will be apprehended and, surely face the full rigours of the law.

I am also, on my own behalf and on behalf of Mampong Chiefs appealing to the State security agencies to investigate the attack and ensure that the culprits are brought to book…,” the statement said.

Below is the full release:

The attention of Mampong Chiefs have been drawn to an attempted assassination attempt on the life of Sammy Awuku, National Youth Organiser of the NPP.

We heard Sammy Awuku’s car had been broken into by unknown assailants when it was parked at a popular Starbites eatery at East Legon.

The car as we understand, got its windscreen smashed by the assailants who were able to made away with his iPad, documents and a copy of the NDC's 'green book'.

We, as chiefs of Mampong, where Sammy Awuku hails from first express our sincerest sympathy to our beloved son who got his valuables stolen, but also thank the God(s) for his life.

We do not want to believe that this is another clear case of intimidation by operatives of a desperate government aimed at cowing the NPP into submission.

As a sub chief of Mampong, I am calling on those persons to return the things they have stolen from Sammy Awuku or live to face the wrath of our gods.

This is also to caution people perpetrating such heinous crimes to deist from that since as the saying goes, “Everyday for the thief, one day for the master,’ they will be apprehended and, surely face the full rigours of the law.

I am also, on my own behalf and on behalf of Mampong Chiefs appeal to the State security agencies to investigate the attack and ensure that the culprits are brought to book.

It doesn’t matter which political party Sammy Awuku belongs to, but the fact remains that he is a Ghanaian and must be given all the necessary attention by the State Security Agencies in matters like this.

We hope our appeals will attract the needed attention.

Signed

Mampong Akwapim Apesemakahene

Nana Kwabena Yirenkyi
